Lisa Karrer's multimedia wayang kulit shadow puppet opera featuring Gamelan Son of Lion, Javanese dance and mask scholar Deena Burton, Balinese dancer Ayu Armini, martial arts performer George Crayton, narrator Ingita Notususanto, and vocalist/stilt dancer Karrer; developed in collaboration with visual artists Kate Yourke and Jenny Lynn McNutt, with text by Walt Whitman and Indonesian poet Sitor Situmorang. The project was awarded development, touring and production funds from The Greenwall Foundation, Arts International, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and NYSCA.
In 2001-'02 Woman's Song... was previewed at NYC venues such as the Indonesian Consulate and The New School's Diversity Initiative Series. In 2003 the production toured to Estonia's Glasperlenspiel Festival, and premiered at The Kitchen in NYC, co-produced by the World Music Institute.
