I will tell you one big difference between patients who do well on dialysis and patients who don’t and it is about the attitude that one brings to dialysis. Many patients bring a very positive attitude to dialysis, in the sense that they don’t take it as a burden or as a problem on the shoulder and it is something that is bad. They understand that a proper dialysis leads a very proper life inspite of very severe kidney failure. They don’t look upon dialysis as a burden but as a treatment for an incurable disease. There are people who lived for more than 40 years on dialysis and it is possible only if one has a positive attitude towards it. On the other hand, we commonly see many more patients are there where there is a lot of resistance and negativity towards dialysis. It is easily understandable because chronic kidney disease is a big problem. But in the long term, negativity towards dialysis or trying to escape towards dialysis not a useful attitude to have. If one is having a lot of problems dealing with the situation then the help of a counselor or a psychologist is advised.
