(Chapters listed below) Gear for me is a sliver in time. A "best guess" plan, if you will. It’s really about answering questions. Where are you going? What are you doing? And what’s a really bad day look like there? It’s also about solving problems, trying to find shortcuts, or your way out of a pickle (which is fine provided you can do it the old-fashioned way when the chips are down). Any way you look at it, above all else, gear is most essential. And truly good gear, without all of the fluff, is hard to find.
