Humble and a poor student as a youth, St John Vianney's boundless fortitude and resignation to God's Will nonetheless established a model for Catholic priests to imitate.
*Clarification*: In his time, St. John Vianney believed that there were no Canonized parish priests. And, in fact, there are very few Canonized priests who were not Bishops, Missionaries or Founders of Orders. They do exist, though:
St. Ivo of Kermartin, who died in 1303 and was Canonized in 1347.
St. Peter Fourier, who died in 1644 and was Canonized in 1897.
