Is it size or quality? There are so many factors that contribute to a gemstones value.
Consider the following when it comes to emeralds:
Color: is it is a light, medium, vivid, or dark green emerald?
Clarity: reminder, emeralds are a type III gemstone. This means they are generally included gems. A gemstone higher in value will be more clean than a gem with more visible inclusions.
Transparency: transparency and clarity go hand in hand though they are not the same! A stone that has higher transparency is valued higher than a gemstone that is opaque. When a gem is eye clean and transparent you get a very vibrant emerald 💚
Carat weight: the larger an emerald is the more difficult they are to find/source. Smaller stones in the 1-2 carat are more commonly found than a 10-20 carat + emerald.
Origin: the origin of a gemstone plays a role in its inherent value. Colombian emeralds are regarded as the best in the world. Zambian, Brazilian, and Russian emeralds produce stunning gemstones that are just as incredible.
