We test the new BMW X1 xDrive20i M Sport, which is the most expensive way to spec an X1 until the iX1 arrives - and we find the cheaper base model is better.
The BMW X1 is a small luxury SUV that has just been renewed for a third generation. It is available with a range of petrol engines or fully electric power in the iX1. We have already tested the base model X1 sDrive18i three-cylinder (and liked it), but you don’t get quite the same pleasure from the X1 xDrive20i M Sport, as Chasing Cars deputy editor Curt Dupriez identifies.
The BMW X1 competes with the Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Jaguar E-Pace, Lexus NX, Range Rover Evoque, Volvo XC40 and other small luxury crossovers.
As always, we don’t accept advertising from car manufacturers, and we’re powered by Budget Direct - so this is an independent, honest review of the BMW X1.
