For the first time in a decade, Tamil Nadu will be voting on February 19th in the 649 districts. The polling for various positions in the body will be held in a single phase and the counting of votes will be done on February 22nd. The key issues of corruption, garbage woes, flooding have severely hit the state in the past, especially hitting Chennai most of all. In the ongoing debate about the purpose of the civic body polls, Senior Journalist Madhavan Narayanan states that 'local elections should be fought on local issues. The civic polls are being fought primarily on party lines.'
