Frederick was a politician and member of the aristocracy. Aged 45 he was hacked to death while walking in a park with an Irish politician (known as the Phoenix Park killings.) The Irish nationalists admitted later (before they were hanged) that Frederick just happened to be walking with the wrong person at the wrong time.
