INTRODUCTION: SAAB GRIPEN OFFERS
As we all know that under MMRCA 2 Indian AIR FORCE is looking for 114 FIGHTER JETS to replace its old SQUADRON as well as to increase the number in its decreasing SQUADRON. Swedish defense firm SAAB is one of the contenders in MMRCA 2.0. Now SAAB has made a bold pitch for its SAAB GRIPEN fighter jet. This is the third time in a year that Sweden is pushing for its fighter jet. Previously SWEDEN's DEFENSE MINISTER Peter Hult qvist has made an attractive offer for India's MMRCA 2. Before that, Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven also raised this matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a virtual summit in March.
UPDATE:
As per the latest update SAAB is offering its new fighter jet SAAB gripen E/ NG at half the price of Rafale along with assistance for development of TEJAS MK 2 and AMCA. Previously, 100% transfer of technology was already being offered for the SAAB gripen. So in this video we will try to find out the CAPABLITY SAAB GRIPEN. We will also try to analyze the reasons due to which it can be rejected. So let’s get started.
SAAB gripen SPECIFICATIONS:
The fighter jet that has been offered to India is SAAB GRIPEN NG / E. This is a MULTI ROLE FIGHTER JET of a SINGLE ENGINE whose OVERALL LENGTH is 15.2M, WINGSPAN is 8.6M and TAKE OFF WEIGHT is 182 TON. It has a general electric GE F414 engine which can generate up to (98KN) THRUST with after burner and has a maximum speed of mach 2.
Coming to the COCKPIT, the Gripen E features a digital cockpit that houses 3 large multi-functional displays (MFDs) along with some 3D screens. A hands-on-throttle-and-stick (HOTAS) is provided in the cockpit which provides a better situational awareness. A triplex, digital fly-by-wire system is employed on the Gripen's flight controls, with a mechanical backup for the throttle. It has been fitted with Selex's Es-05 Raven AESA-Radar which is an ADVANCE RADAR SYSTEM. Apart from this InfraRed Search and Track System (IRST), highly advanced electronic warfare and communication systems make it great and provide excellent situational awareness to PILOT.
Talking about WEAPONS, it has 10 hard points and it can LAUNCH all types of EUROPEAN and WESTERN WEAPONS, including GUIDE MISSILES, UNGUIDED MISSILES, BEYOND VISUAL RANGE and MEDIUM RANGE MISSILES. With this, it is also capable of LAUNCH METEOR MISSILE. Its weapon package includes the Meteor, IRIS-T, KEPD-350 Taurus and the Spear missiles.
OVERALL THIS IS A CAPABLE AIRCRAFT WHICH FITS ACCORDING TO THE REQUIREMENT OF INDIAN AIR FORCE. AND THE BEST ATTRACTIVE FEATURE OF THIS PLANE IS ITS PER HOUR OPERATING COST WHICH IS Rs.343060. IF COMPARED WITH RAFAEL, the PER HOUR OPERATING COST of RAFAEL Rs.1204360.57. Additionally, the overall maintenance cost of the SAAB gripen is less compared with rafale.
Reason for rejection:
Under MMRCA 2.0 Indian air force is looking for 4.5th generation fighter jets with some 5th generation capabilities which are completely missing in case of GRIPEN E/NG. The TRANSFER OF TECHNOLOGY OFFERED by SWEDEN is not complete because there are many components in the fighter jet which are of AMERICAN and BRITISH ORIGIN where TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER IS NOT POSSIBLE. Additionally most of the features of SAAB GRIPEN NG match with TEJAS MK2. So it is completely irrelevant to buy a fighter jet which we are already developing indigenously in India. The fighter jet has been under controversies and scams since its development. There were reports of widespread bribery and corruption by BAE Systems and Saab. The scandal tarnished the international reputation of the Gripen, BAE Systems, Saab, and Sweden.
