There is growing evidence that suggests hormonal changes during perimenopause can throw blood sugar levels out of whack. A decrease in the production of estrogen and progesterone plays a major role in blood sugar fluctuations. Spikes in estrogen have been known to make the body more sensitive to insulin (which may lead to hypoglycemia), while progesterone can increase insulin resistance (which leads to hyperglycemia). This decline in estrogen and progesterone levels is one of the earliest signs of perimenopause or menopause transition which, as the name suggests, prepares the body for menopause. I’m hoping to learn more about my body with wearing a CGM for the month. It didn’t hurt to put it in, lancing the finger is more annoying than this. #continousglucosemonitoring #hormoneimbalance #perimenopausesymptoms
