In the early 1970s, a group of six young girls from Surrey faced unexpected resistance at their school for embracing skinhead culture. These girls, only 13 or 14 years old, had adopted the iconic close-cropped hairstyle that symbolized their connection to a movement centered around working-class pride and defiance. But for them, the consequences were severe. The headmistress, Miss Mary Davies, banned them from participating in school outings, claiming that their appearance would tarnish the school’s image.
