EarthQuaker Devices loves and champions our hometown musical heroes! So, straight from the melodic heart of Akron, O-H-I-O comes this three-song set from local jazz fusion quartet JT's Electrik Blackout. Recorded at Akron’s downtown live music venue Musica, The quartet gets funky and beautiful with help from plenty of EQD finest. Leader and saxophonist Justin Tibbs sets the pace on the funky opener, “Watch For The Hook,” and adds some Spatial Delivery to his kinetic solo. Then keyboardist Andru Dennis goes wild on his serpentine synth solo with some added space provided by the Astral Destiny. The session then slows down a bit for “Blackout Interlude,” which begins as an ethereal melodic bed led by Tibbs’ Dispatch Master enhanced melody before transforming into a steady uptempo groover. The set wraps with the ballad “Sometimes Space Is Needed,” featuring bassist Jared Lees showing his improvisational skills using the Spatial Delivery as an auto-wah and lending his solo that old-school Bootsy Collins vibe.
