80% of prostate cancer surgeries in the U.S. are done with robotic procedures today.
Dr. David Albala tells us that robots allow surgeons to better meet the goals of robotic prostate cancer surgery which can lead to better outcomes for patients.
Doctors can more accurately cut diseased tissue out while preserving the nerve bundle necessary for sexual function. Patients lose less blood and have much shorter recovery times compared to open surgery. After the procedure patients are usually to go home the next day.
Dr. David Albala was formerly a Duke University Medical Center urologic surgeon, and is now Chief of Urology at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, NY.
