The Fender Jazz Bass introduced in 1960, was Leo Fender’s second bass design. It’s brighter tone, offset body, and more narrow neck was aimed at appealing to jazz musicians. Featuring a 34-inch scale length, two single coil pickups, and electronics that allow the pickups to be blended, it’s tone is much different than it’s predecessor, the Precision Bass. The Jazz Bass has been embraced by legendary players such as Jaco Pastorius, Marcus Miller, Geddy Lee, and Flea. Its influence spans genres—from jazz and funk to rock and metal—cementing it as an essential instrument in modern music history.
