Video of honeybees in one of our small starter hives taking
orientation flights in mid day. After emerging from their cells about
21 days from the time the egg was laid, the bees work at different
chores in the hive. The chores include cleaning, feeding, storing, comb building, and guarding the entrance. About three weeks from hatching and performing these assorted chores it is finally time for them to become foragers and leave the hive to gather products for the survival of the hive. The first time they fly out is called an orientation flight. They fly around facing the hive gathering information to identify their hive and its location. In peak nectar and pollen season a bee can work itself to death in as little as 3 weeks.
