I had heard of the town of Trat many times before. It's the town that connects to the islands Koh Chang, Koh Mak and Koh Kood. Though I'd never really thought to stay there a night. Then I met Mark on the way back from Sihanoukville, who I had so much in common with, and told me it's worth a look.
The best tip I've had from a foreigner. Trat is such a special town. I was feeling the vibe of the place instantly. It's as if it got stuck in the 70's or 80's. there's no high rises, very few tourists, you can walk almost everywhere and it still has all the shops and services you want. Markets, restaurants, massage, barbers, laundry and a few small bars, some with live music.
What was supposed to be a one night stop over turned into 3 and it could have easily been longer. Definitely recommend checking it out if you're ever in this part of Thailand or if you just wanna see a nice town. Go and say hi to An and Kae at the Reggae Bar for me.
