Our sheep are out on the pasture as the brassicas continue to grow and produce great forage for not only their benefit, but also for the soil nutrients. We planted these cover crops on Labor Day and the results are going to lower feed costs and give our livestock a chance to enjoy our experimental field. These turnip and radish green tops have a crude protein content of around 30% and their tubers are around 12%. Combined with the triticale, these cover crops provide a great fiber for the sheep as we move into the winter.
