Accidents and natural disasters are hard to predict and prevent. Because Taiwan is located in the subtropical region, there are many typhoons during the summer and autumn. Moreover, being on the earthquake zone, Taiwanese people often experience disasters which cause their lives and properties constantly in danger.
In order to alleviate the loss of people’s lives and properties, the Executive Yuan integrated the units of the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Transportation, and the Coast Guard Administration and formed the National Rescue Command Center of the Executive Yuan (NRCC) on a task force basis on July 24, 2000.
On December 31, 2002, the task of assisting the management of the NRCC was reassigned from the Ministry of National Defense to the National Fire Agency of the Ministry of Interior.
The Disaster Prevention and Protection Act enacted on August 4, 2010 established the legal status of the NRCC.
When disasters occur, the NRCC puts forward its best effort to save all those in need with compassion, fulfilling its duty of protecting the people.
NRCC’s main tasks are as follows:
1.Assisting and coordinating rescue operations for aviation distress and maritime distress.
2.Assisting and coordinating emergency aerial transport of the injured (patient).
3.Assisting and coordinating aerial transport of organ transplant.
4.Assisting and coordinating rescue operations for mountain disasters, tall building disasters and other major disasters.
5.Communicating for the rescue operations of maritime distress and aviation distress, coordinating with international rescue coordination centers and assisting and coordinating rescue operations of other major disasters.
