At SafetyQuip we're often asked to provide a

half-mask respirator for welding purposes.

One of the most popular in the SafetyQuip range

is this product here...

This is the 3M™ 6228 GP2 Welding Respirator Kit.

The product looks like this assembled...

The half mask respirator is the 3M™ 6000 series

half mask respirator. It's a very comfortable,

soft respirator to wear, and the filter is the 2128 filter.

It's what we call a GP2 filter.

A GP2 filter has a fine layer of carbon on the top that

provides a level of protection from nuisance odour

and it's also a P2 filter. That deals with fine particles

such as the haze that you see come up when

you're welding, grinding or cutting metal.

That smoky haze is really just fine particles in the air,

burnt bits of metal and so forth that you really don't want

to breathe in and have go down into your lungs.

So, we're going to open up the box and see what's inside.

It's a nice sturdy box that's fairly air-tight.

You can use it as a storage box long-term.

This is the respirator itself.

The 3M™ 6000 series respirator.

There's a whole pile of other filters that can be added

to that respirator if you've got other needs in the future.

You can simply purchase additional filters for other purposes.

The filter that comes in this kit though...

Is the 3M™ GP2 filter. It's the 2128 filter.

Particularly good for welding, grinding and cutting metal.
