The deadlock between farmers from several states and the central government failed to end as the third round of talks remained inconclusive. The government has called for another round of talks and the two sides have agreed to meet again on December 9 (Wednesday). Meanwhile, farmers' leaders said they will carry on with the 'Bharat Bandh' on December 8, as per plans. Thousands of farmers have camped at the border areas of Delhi, blocking roads to the national capital, in their protest against the farm laws.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, farmer leader Baldev Singh Nihalgarh told media outlets, "This agitation is not only of Punjab but people from across the country have joined in. Ministers are running around anxious over the call for Bharat Bandh." Nihalgarh also furnished details of the Bharat Bandh called by farmers' outfits on December 8. Everything will be closed from morning to evening on Tuesday while 'Chakka Jaam' will go on till 3 pm.
"Ambulances and wedding processions will be allowed to pass and the demonstrations will be peaceful," Baldev Singh Nihalgarh said adding that a major demonstration will be organised at Sector 17 ground in Chandigarh on December 7. While thanking those who extended support to the agitation, Nihalgarh said, "Hastening the agitation has become a necessity, the government is not ready to change the three farm laws."
During the press conference on Sunday, farmer leader Jagmohan said, "It has been decided that our demand is non-negotiable." "All outfits involved with the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha are saying one thing- the three laws must be withdrawn. Farmers are adamant. I would like to thank everyone and request them to join the movement. Please do not give a bad name to the agitation," activist Yogendra Yadav added.
Yadav also said that milk shops and grocery stores will also remain closed on December 8. Student unions from Maharashtra to Gujarat and traders' unions have supported the call for Bharat Bandh, Yogendra Yadav told media outlets adding mandis in Punjab and Haryana will also remain closed.
