I look forward to planting my large agave Americana ‘mediopicta aurea,’ aka century plant every year. It brings me so much joy! With pointed ends, it can be a bit tricky to plant. But once in the urn, it's the best statement piece and really what started my love for all agave.

To provide a bit of interest, I plant a few trailing annuals under all my agave:
- Lemon Coral sedum
- Silver Mist helichrysum
These two annuals really accentuate the agave and balance out the colors and size. I pick agave for their drought tolerance and ability to withstand Iowa’s extreme conditions. And these two annuals do the same!
