Our second castle while exploring Scotland with kids was Stirling Castle which is a Historic Scotland property. It sits on a hill or outcropping above the town of Stirling and the River Forth. It is much different than the castle at Doune ([ Ссылка ] ) in that it has been refurbished to resemble what it would have looked like in the 1500's. The paint is bright and fresh and the beds are made and there were character actors portraying different figures in history and answering questions. We particularly enjoyed meeting the Duke of Argyle. Stirling castle has been a defensive site for centuries and guards the way to the highlands. We took one of the free tours which was nice but might have chosen an audio guide in retrospect. There are several different sections of the castle to explore and a requisite tea room. It was a cold and cloudy day but the views from the castle hill above Stirling were stunning and illustrated why the site was so important.
