After 7 years of drought the rains finally came in the Eastern Cape area of the Karoo. The plants recovered and the animals had food again. Then a terrible thing happened, first a few small swarms or locusts were seen and suddenly they were everywhere! Some swarms were 20km wide and 80km long! They ate all the grass they could find.
Now the farmers are back to where they were, no grazing and since it is close to the end of summer little hope for enough rainfall to recover before winter.
