In this video, I have shown you how to easily resume playback in VLC media player on Ubuntu 18.04.
You can find a lot of videos or instructions about this process but keep in mind that after selecting continue playback to always you must need to check the checkbox of recently played items as well. Otherwise, continue playback option will not work.
VLC media player is better in Ubuntu and also from SM player. I have checked many video player but VLC works best in Ubuntu. KM player is not supported in Ubuntu then you can use VLC media player as KM player with same shortcut button configuration.
