The man accused of carjacking and killing an 80-year-old woman in Seattle has previously been committed to the state’s mental hospital, where doctors expressed concern about his risk for committing acts of violence.
Jahmed K. Haynes, 48, is in jail on suspicion of murder and animal cruelty. Investigators said he carjacked and ran over 80-year-old Ruth Dalton in Seattle’s Madison Valley neighborhood on Tuesday. They said he then stabbed her dog to death and dumped its body in a trash can at a park.
Haynes was arrested on Wednesday by a SWAT team after leaving a mental health clinic in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.
