Iyer shares narratives and stories of South Asian, Muslim, Arab and Sikh communities who have been subjected to hate violence and state violence over the past two decades since 9/11. She discusses the effects of mass violence, detentions and deportations, and surveillance on community members, and the strategies of resilience and solidarity that community members have been relying on in order to move through crisis after crisis over the past 20 years.
Deepa Iyer, Director of Strategic Initiatives at Building Movement Project, is a South Asian American lawyer, writer and activist who creates resources and narratives to foster social change and solidarity practices. Deepa is the former executive director of South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT) and the author of We Too Sing America: South Asian, Arab, Muslim and Sikh Immigrants Shape Our Multiracial Future (The New Press 2015).
