We headed back to Aspen, Colorado late September to experience Colorados iconic fall colors. We verified with local news (Denver) to understand the peak season for fall the Aspen Fall colors: Denverpost.com; koaa.com.
In this video we will show you the Famous Maroon Bells, hiking trails filled with fall colors, mountain biking trails with epic views, the Silver Queen Aspen Gondolas and more.
We took highway 82 through Independence Pass where the driving conditions drastically changed. Make sure you verify their website before you go due to weather, construction, etc. Once we got over the mountains, we were greeted by golden yellow Aspens off the highway covering up the mountainsides. As soon as we arrived in Aspen, we rode around on the trails next to Owl Creek Road (in Aspen) where you will see plenty of Aspens and Elk. Elk came out late evening before sunset. There were probably 50 of them out there.
Maroon Bells:
This is my top recommended places to visit while in Aspen. The famous Maroon Bells is about a 4 hour drive from Denver and it’s worth making the drive to experience the breathtaking landscape. There are several trails you can hike that provide access to Aspens natural features and a closer look at the mountainous peaks. This area is surrounded by jagged stoned mountains ,, golden colored aspens, and wine-colored peaks towering above the glacial lake. This is why it’s one of the most photographed mountains in North America. After 8:00am in the morning, the park closed the road strictly for the shuttle buses only. So we took advantage of that and rode around Maroon Creek Rd. Make sure you plan and reserve a time on their website: [ Ссылка ]
Mountain Biking Trails:
I used Trailforks to locate trails around Snowmass. I highly recommend Rim Trail and Deadline.
Silver Queen Gondola:
On our last day here, we wanted to ride the Gondolas located in the heart of Aspen. During the 15 min ride to 11,200 ft of elevation, you will be exposed to gorgeous views of aspen. Once you’ve arrived at the top, you will step foot on the Sundeck where you will see Aspen’s beautiful mountain range. At the summit, you’ll find a full service restaurant, a bar, and areas to enjoy your meal. For $31 dollars per person, we thought it was worth the experience even though it was quite expensive. I highly recommended Platos Restaurant where you can enjoy their amazing food with a breathe taking view of the mountains. For dessert, we went to French Alpine Bistro in downtown Aspen where they have the best crepes in town. And the Limelight hotel where we stayed located in snowmass just 20 minutes away from Aspen.
