A 20-minute video of some of my favourite things to see in Toulouse, France. I start in the Bourrassol neighbourhood on the rive gauche of la rivière Garonne, across from Old Toulouse. We cycle across the Pont St-Pierre, which is exclusively pedestrian and cyclist for much of the year, then visit two of Toulouse’s best known squares, Place St-Pierre and Place de la Daurade, the city’s main ports back in the day. From there we visit the Couvent des Jacobins, a 13th-century Dominican church that underwent numerous transitions through the ages and was only recently restored, beginning in 1905, to some of its earlier glory.
The next leg of our video takes us to the Canal de Brienne, which connects to the famous Canal du Midi. My followers (wheeland.substack.com) will known I’ve become quite fascinated with the past and present of the Canal du Midi, but today’s visit is just a peaceful bike ride along the canal with a surprise ending at the Matabiau train station.
