Hi everyone, join me in another Frankfurt Walking Tour. We will start our walk from Willy-Brandt-Platz. We'll also visit Kaisersaal and then finish our walk in the Römerberg in Altstadt Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
The Willy-Brandt-Platz is a central square in Frankfurt am Main, Hesse, Germany. Its name was Theaterplatz (Theatre square) until 1992, when it was named after Willy Brandt, the former chancellor. It is located between the Main Station and the Altstadt, at the Frankfurter Anlagenring, and is part of the so-called Bankenviertel. Major buildings are the Städtisches Opern- und Schauspielhaus, the municipal theatre that opened in 1963, and the Eurotower skyscraper. Below the square are the U-Bahnhof Willy-Brandt-Platz and the Theatertunnel street tunnel.
The Kaisersaal is the undisputed gem of the Römer. Initially, the Kaisersaal was used as the assembly hall of the Frankfurt Council. In 1612 the councilors invited for the first time to a festive banquet in their council chamber, reason: the coronation of Emperor Mathias. To this day, it is the ballroom for all important receptions.
Römerberg (also spelled as Roemerberg, lit. 'Roman Mountain') is a public space in Frankfurt, Germany. It is located in front of the Römer building complex, seat of the Frankfurt city administration since the 15th century. As the site of numerous imperial coronations, trade fairs and Christmas markets, the square is the historic heart of the medieval Altstadt (old town) and today a popular tourist destination.
