We did so many of these ball for a wedding DIT style & loads of friends were part of the decor team and together we spent many yay hours making these yarn balls, material flowers, tissue paper flowers, signs, name tags & together we all decorating the venue the day before the wedding...
DIY sounds lonely & tiring & well DIT is just so rad and so much fun...
RECIPE for YARN BALLS
You'll need:
varying sized Balloons (blown up to be round... not too much)
Wood glue
Wool/Yarn
Blow up balloon, keep it round looking, and start strapping the wool around the balloon till you're happy with the effect... mix wood glue & water (The key is to make a mixture which is thicker than water, reasonably thinner than glue, that allows you to dip the yarn into the mixture and soak it up so it's completely wet.) some have added corn flour/starch to this mixture too...
roll your balloon in it, so the yarn/wool is totally drenched, then squeeze off excess...
Leave to dry for 24-48 hours... re-apply the glue mix again, if it's not firm to touch...
Then separate the balloon from the wool/yarn outer, (I used a plastic chopstick), if it looses shape, put another balloon in and blow up, just to reform & remove...
Voilà! There You have it... a beautiful round yarn balloon!
For table decor, I highly recommend you do different sizes... and when you're getting all messy... may as well make 20 or so at a time...
