Over the years, attention has been focused on electronic document management (EDM) in the place of traditional/conventional document management system, as a viable information management system in the construction industry. This is achieved using different platforms such as web-based databases and more recently, BIM technology which gives room for collaboration using an open BIM server. Construction professionals globally need to understand the usefulness and the nitty-gritty of BIM-based information management system to improve their business process and service delivery. By attending this session, participants will gain first-hand knowledge on how BIM can be put to use for information management which will give them an edge in the construction industry space.
With the advent of the fourth industrial revolution (4IR), digitalisation has been introduced to the construction process in which Building Information Modelling (BIM) is taking the centre stage. Through providing additional information layers capable of communicating in real-time and coordinating throughout the design stage, BIM is viewed as an optimal stage to create efficient and creative solutions for the engineering & construction industries (AEC). BIM’s technology provides a new way to predict, control and track product quality and quantity to improve material handling. At the moment, construction management software already in existence can be integrated with BIM360 to widen BIM potentials in the construction environment at the project design phase. This allows for information from different construction management software to be incorporated into one another. Thereby, making information management a lot easier using BIM. The approaches to achieving this is discussed in this presentation.
