Mother Teresa, born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu in 1910 in Skopje, was a Roman Catholic nun and missionary known for her charitable work. In 1950, she founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta (Kolkata), India, dedicating her life to serving the poorest of the poor. Her compassion and selfless service won her global recognition, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. Despite criticisms of her methods and views, she remained a symbol of humanitarianism until her death in 1997. Mother Teresa was canonized as Saint Teresa of Calcutta by the Catholic Church in 2016.
