STORYLINE:
A car loaded with mortar rounds exploded on Tuesday in eastern Baghdad's Zayouna neighbourhood, scattering shells over a large area.
One of the mortar rounds landed in the courtyard of the Interior Ministry killing two female employees and injuring a man.
Another landed on a football field and injured three city workers, a police captain said.
The injured were taken to al-Kindi hospital for treatment.
The bodies of the two female employees were seen at the same hospital morgue.
The car, which was empty, was thought to have been used by insurgents.
The attack occurred at the Interior Ministry as Iraq's prime minister held meetings aimed at finding new defence and interior ministers.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Sadr city residents held funerals on Tuesday for one of the victims of Kazimiyah blast that occurred on Monday near the Shiite holy Shrine of Imam Kadhim.
A bomb planted in a parked minivan killed at least seven and injured at least 20 when it exploded at the entrance to an open air market in northern Baghdad.
The explosion in Kazimiyah happened at the entrance to a busy market selling second-hand clothes.
