Jack Dempsey RTD3 v. Jess Willard
07/04/1919 🗂

The Manassa Mauler, Jack Dempsey wouldnt exactly shock the world in terms of the end result of him beating Willard as the odds were pretty even (Willard narrowly being the favorite), but no one that day in Toledo, Ohio expected 6'1 Jack Dempsey to absolutely bully & punish a 6'7 Jess Willard, nicknamed the Pottawatomie Giant, was floored 7 times inside the first round back when there wasn't a mandatory 8-count rule nor a neutral corner rule set yet so Dempsey stood over Willard at all times until Willard rise. I myself admire Willard's heart of staying in another 2 rounds of the pummeling, especially after he had allegedly already got his jaw broke, cut over the eye, swollen eye & a badly cut mouth after just the first round. Willard would retire on his stool after the 3rd round sobbing the phrase "I have $100,000 & a farm in Kansas."

Jack Dempsey moving his record to 53-4-9 with 39 KO's.
