After a remarkable sporting journey that led to its first victory in the African Eco Race, the challenging rally race that retraces the routes of the legendary African Dakar, Aprilia introduces the Tuareg Rally at EICMA 2024, an adventure motorcycle dedicated to top-level off-road performance and in many ways very close to the race version crowned African Queen with Jacopo Cerutti on the saddle.
The Aprilia Tuareg Rally is based on the invaluable experience gained by Aprilia Racing in technical collaboration with the Guareschi brothers' GCorse when creating the Tuareg race motorcycle. Building on the already excellent off-road capabilities of the standard Tuareg, it quickly became a new benchmark for twin-cylinder adventure motorcycles. Defending his title this year, Jacopo Cerutti, who won the 2023 Italian Motorsport Championship, surprised everyone on his debut in the desert dunes, dominating the African Eco Race from the first stage to the legendary finish line at the Dakar’s Lac Rose.
The star of this extraordinary African victory on the Italian twin-cylinder engine, Aprilia Racing official driver Jacopo Cerutti, also contributed to the development of the Aprilia Tuareg Rally. “It was fascinating to be involved in the development of a production model like the New Tuareg Rally,” commented the driver from Como. “The aim was to make it as similar as possible to the bike we won the Africa Eco Race on, and I can say we have succeeded! The Tuareg was already a perfect starting point for smooth off-road riding, but with the Rally version we have taken that a step further and come very close to a full-fledged rally raid bike. With the right tyres it can easily carry you over the desert dunes. My experience has been particularly useful in providing feedback on the electronics, creating a new engine map that provides quicker and more stable throttle response, and chassis adjustments, improving the bike’s overall stability with a fork that provides better support and a shock absorber that absorbs potholes more effectively at high speed.
The new variant is powered by the same 659cc (81mm bore and 63.9mm stroke) parallel twin as the standard Tuareg. However, for 2025 it gets a new ECU, along with 52mm throttle bodies to replace the previous 48mm units to comply with Euro 5+ emissions standards, and it produces power at 9,250rpm keeps the previous 80 hp level. This Rally variant uses a specific map that provides a more aggressive throttle response. The Tuareg Rally also gets a special titanium SC-Project exhaust system.
