On Monday, December 10, 2018, Chicago Shakespeare Theater’s newest performance venue—The Yard at Chicago Shakespeare—was filled to capacity with 600 high school students, friends, and family from communities across the city and the metro area, performing, cheering, dancing and geeking out—over Shakespeare. The Chicago Shakespeare Slam “Final Bout” marked the culmination of countless hours of rehearsal time, Saturday Team Workshops, and Regional Bouts for this second annual region-wide high school Shakespeare slam. Chicago Shakespeare Slam teams prepared for two rounds: first, the “Scene Round”—teams chose a scene from any of Shakespeare’s plays—and second, the “Dream Round”—teams created a reimagined, “remixed” performance piece from Shakespeare’s MACBETH.
