Experts Gathered to Discuss the Public Health Threat from Gasoline Aromatics
The discussion highlighted alternatives to gasoline aromatics that benefit public health, the environment/climate change, national security, and the economy. These solutions could be implemented in the upcoming Safer Affordable Fuel-Efficient (SAFE) Vehicles Rule.
Governors, public health, environmental, energy, public policy, and media experts presented new data and discussed how advances in regulations, agricultural and automotive technology, and gasoline quality can save lives, taxes, jobs and stop a source of funding for terrorism.
Panel highlights included discussions on gasoline aromatics and EPA’s duty to control them, how gasoline aromatics are the new lead, new science emphasizing corn ethanol’s low carbon intensity factors and more.
Speakers included Timothy Wirth (Vice Chair, United Nations Foundation) and former U.S. Senator (D-CO) and Ambassador C. Boyden Gray (Partner, Boyden Gray & Associates; former White House Counsel to President George H.W. Bush).
Supporting organizations included the Environmental and Energy Study Institute, Clean Fuels Development Coalition, Farmers Union Enterprises, Governors’ Biofuels Coalition, National Farmers Union, Safe Gasoline Campaign and the Urban Air Initiative.
