The Selimiye Mosque, which became more famous around the world after UNESCO included a mosque in its list of cultural monuments for the first time in 2011, draws attention with its features and magnificent structure. The cornerstone of Turkish-Islamic architectural art, Selimiye Mosque, stands out as the most magnificent structure of Edirne, like a trinket. The mosque has four elegant minarets with a diameter of 3.80 cm and a height of 70.89 m with three balconies. Each balcony in the entrance direction is accessed by separate roads, and the other two are accessed by a single road. In addition to the inaccessibility of its architectural features, the mosque is also extremely important with its decorative features such as stone, marble, tile, wood and mother-of-pearl. The dome of the mosque, which sits on four elephant feet, is 53 m high and 27.5 m in diameter. This main dome is supported by two half domes, as seen in Hagia Sophia. There are 32 windows in the dome drum. There are minarets at each of the four corners of the mosque courtyard. The construction of the mosque, which started in 1568 with the order of Selim II, took seven years with the hard work of thousands of people and was completed in 1575. It was built by Suleiman the Magnificent to show the power and splendor of the empire. The mosque and its complex were completed in 7 years. Architect Sinan also defined the mosque, which is considered as the most important work of Ottoman architecture, as "my masterpiece". With an astonishing architectural success, they were built in the thinnest way possible despite their very long height, and three different staircases were placed on two of them, which did not intersect with each other when ascending to the balconies. Architect Sinan, who left magnificent works in the history of world architecture, defines this mosque as "My Masterpiece". Four at the corners and one half dome at the Mihrab support the central dome. The building is illuminated by 32 small windows on the drum of the dome and numerous windows in 6 rows on the faces. It is the most successful example of the 8-base mosque plan created by Architect Sinan.
