Women - mostly saree-clad - accompanied by men and children, having come from far afield, all in their best festive attire, worship the lingam and yoni manifestations of male and female - ness during Maha Shivratri festivities at the Khajurhao temples in Madhya Pradesh. They also worship the Nandi bull.
They crack dried coconuts, light joss sticks and sprinkle the coconut water over the phallus and womb symbol on the ground next to the Nandi bull stone work. Later in the video, a horse is also being worshipped. What would be the religious symbolism here, we wonder?
That's a lot of copra or coconut fiber that has been generated! The women go on to circum-ambulate the statues.
