Hi Guys!
On Saturday 2/11/2017 we took a drive to Anderson Dam in Morgan Hill California. The news report on Friday Night said that the lake level was at 90% and climbing.
In 2007 a study that was conducted determined that in the event of a 7.2+ magnitude earthquake could possibly cause Anderson Dam to fail. At 100% capacity, it would send a 35 foot wall of water into downtown Morgan Hill. The safety precaution was to lower the lake level to 68% or less to reduce the strain on the Dam until a seismic retrofit could be done to strengthen the Dam. During 5 years of drought there was no concern. In the last month the drought has been all but broken. With record rainfall in a extremely short amount of time, the lake level has risen in record time. This has caused the Santa Clara Water District to open the drain on the lake 100% to empty as much water as they can, as fast as they can to get the lake level back to 68%. Even at 3,000 of gallons per second being let out of the lake, the level has risen to 100%.
Luckily there has been a break in the weather that will last till Thursday this week. Even with the break, they will not be able to lower the lake level to 68% before the projected 2-3 inches of rain arrives by next weekend.
