This is a presentation I developed for the March 2022 Annual Conference of the Asian Studies Development Program in San Diego. I discuss the philosophy called the One-Stroke (yihua) of the Qing dynasty painter Shitao. In this 30- minute video you'll see both Shitao's paintings and works by two contemporary Asian artists--Lee Ufan and Wang Huaiqing--who make use of brushstrokes to convey spiritual meaning in a way resonating with Shitao's theory.
