A new earthquake struck central Italy on Friday (3/10), causing casualties and further damage to the historic basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi. Six people sustained minor injuries in the first and strongest of Friday's shocks, which measured 4.8 on the Richter scale.
The tremor, felt as far away as Rome and the Adriatic coast, spread widespread panic in the region which was jolted by two deadly earthquakes a week ago.
