Inside your Dubsado account, we've included a handful of fields where you can save information about a client or project.
The information can be manually typed into a field, or it can be brought in automatically from somewhere else, like a form being filled out by the client, using a concept called mapping.
Mapping creates a relationship between a field on a form and a field inside a project, or on a client's profile.
It's also the first step toward setting up your account to use smart fields to automatically personalize your templates!
How to Map a Client’s Response
Mapping is set up on a form template. You can map a short answer field or a date select field, but other types of fields like drop downs and free responses cannot be mapped.
To map a field, simply click on the field mapping dropdown, and select the appropriate location where the client's response should be stored. That's it! Now going forward when you share this form with a client, the response the client puts in the field will automatically be stored in the location where you've mapped it.
If you mapped a response to a field that is client-related, you'll see that information on the left-hand sidebar or by clicking on the pencil icon to expand the client’s profile.
If you mapped a response to a field that is project-related, you'll see that information under “Project Location” or at the top, as the project's date if you used a Date Select element.
Tip #1
Mapping is a great way to pull key information out of the form and keep it at your fingertips. You'll have access to the client's completed form too. Just head into the client’s project, and head to the “Forms” tab.
Tip #2
If you have already collected information using a mapped field, and then ask the same question again on another form, also mapped, the client's original response will be visible when they open the second form. If a client erases the answer and types in something new, it will overwrite the answer in Dubsado and save the most recent information entered in.
