Although it seems like we are very organized and meticulous about our wine tasting schedule, many people would be surprised at how some of our most incredible events happen with very little planning and advanced notice.
While sitting at my desk a little more than a week ago I saw but one wine tasting event on the schedule the following week and remember thinking, "this is inexcusable for the month of February. Phil told the story of how Al went up to the old Bopnzial ranch of which 80n acres were available, with Louis Martini and Andre Tchelitscef to look at the property.
Al took a job at Ridge before paul Dreyper was winemaker and I have kidded with Paul that he has been making wine at Ridge for longer than I have been alive.
Al was a man before his time and when most people did not even understand the quality of terroir Al was convinced that this was what made his wines unique. At first he was thinking about the possibility of blending the three single vineyard wines but once he saw the differenced with the various vineyard sites Al was convinced that these wines needed to be bottled separately.
