A few weeks ago I learned of an instrument that a retired couple was looking to pass along to a musician who would use it. I needed a new banjo and this came at the perfect time. I'm looking forward to putting it to work with this traditional jazz group I play with where I live, but first I put on a heavier set of strings and put it in Irish tenor tuning (GDAE, like an octave mandolin) and read through a violin transcription I had laying around. I can't decide whether I should settle on normal tenor tuning (CGDA - like a viola) or plectrum (DGBE - bottom four of a guitar).
