Design tip #1: Get visual to get clarity
The most painful debates happen when we don’t have a common point of reference that captures all of the details in an unambiguous way. Get visual - get clear!
Design tip #2: Build your relationships
Design is a very technical profession, and the ability to share your ideas and opinions with your colleagues will make or break your success. Build your relationships and you’ll go a long way in your UX/UI design career.
Design tip #3: Learn business skills
Designers can’t work in a vacuum, just like business owners struggle to feed back on design if they have no knowledge of digital. Learn business skills so you can have better conversations with your stakeholders and build those relationships.
Design tip #4: Speak business to leaders
Always frame your motive for a particular design decision in the context of business and what outcome it may positively affect.
Design tip #5: Understand their problems
Understanding what your stakeholders’ key priorities are will help you better align your design decisions to their needs - and will help you get more work shipped and help more people.
Design tip #6: Become a better listener
Be sure to speak up when you need to, but always be ready to listen with the intent of finding out what the user / stakeholder / colleague is saying.
Design tip #7: Write better copy
Read widely and well, and use your writing skills to communicate your messaging concisely in your interface designs.
