The F1 2018 Azerbaijan Grand-Prix 2018 starts on April 29th. Watch the technical challenges of Scuderia Ferrari and MAHLE at Baku City Circuit.

Baku Track is a really nice track close to the sea. Technically speaking, it is the longest track of the Formula One Season 2018. Thus the race is very challenging not only for the drivers but also for the engineers and technical team of Scuderia Ferrari.

The Baku track is very demanding for the power unit and is really stressful for the engine.

Because of this larger track you need to balance the energy . This has an impact on the strategy also in terms of the reliability of the Mahle pistons and all the other parts of the engine.

Although the Baku City Circuit is a street circuit, it is characterized by extremely high speeds. In 2016 Williams set an unofficial world record of 373 km/h.

The six-kilometre-long asphalt strip runs through the historic old town of the metropolis as well as modern passages. The first sector doesn't offer much variety in terms of driving. After a full throttle passage of more than two kilometres - separated by a straight line - four 90-degree curves are waiting, which are extremely similar in characteristics. Here, mechanical grip is particularly in demand in order to accelerate well out of the corners.

The technically demanding section of the track begins in turn five. After a chicane and another right turn, turn eight and nine to the narrowest part of the track, a left-uphill stretch along a historic castle complex through which only one car fits. After another tight right turn, it turns into a left bend that leads into an extremely fast section. Two full throttle curves follow two more left turns before returning to the promenade, which is driven through at full throttle for over two kilometres.

If the teams in Monaco don't even have to fill up the tank because fuel consumption was so low, the situation in Baku is exactly the opposite. Due to the full throttle ratio of 56 percent per lap, fuel consumption is significantly higher. Two kilos per lap is the guideline, which is significantly higher than last year's figure. In addition, the hybrid drive is also extremely demanding, as there are many acceleration phases in Baku.

The Baku City Circuit (Azerbaijani Bakı Şəhər Halqası) is a street circuit in downtown Baku in Azerbaijan. Although Azerbaijan belongs geographically to the Near East, a Formula 1 race entitled the Grand Prix of Europe took place here for the first time in 2016. From 2017 the race was renamed Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
