This aria is from my college voice recital. The song is "Monica's Waltz" from the opera The Medium by Gian Carlo Menotti. In this aria, I sing the roles of Monica and Toby. Toby is Monica's childhood friend who is mute. Obviously, Monica is putting words in Toby's mouth by singing his love confession to her. At times, Monica seems to be teasing Toby, but in the end we see that Toby has real feelings for Monica.
