Wow, I was going through the California registrations and found a temporary permit with my name on it. I sold this car in 2005 to a big time collector!
EXTERIOR: It was stripped to bare metal and repainted in 1991. The fact that it still looks amazing today says a lot, it was done right and not full of fillers. It's straight and fits right too. Original code 75 Fire Red is smooth and glossy. The chrome and trim is straight and shiny. I think the white vinyl top looks great against the red, it is slightly aged. All 4 headlights are correct T-3s It is sitting on original 15 inch chrome Buick mags with BFG tires.
INTERIOR: I think the interior is a big plus. Many Buicks were bench seats with auto on the column, not only is this a factory buckets with console but it's also a factory pearl white which is gorgeous. It also has the factory gauges and tachometer. From carpet to headliner it's in great shape. The interior lights work, the dash area is very clean, complete set of original seatbelts.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: It is the VIN # matching original Stage-1 motor. It was rebuilt, bored to a 462, dyno tested at 399 hp and 445 lbs of torque. It's completely stock on the outside including the Stage-1 chrome valve covers, complete ram air assembly including the heat riser tube. It also features power steering and power brakes. Everything is clean and proper: squirters are hooked up, the overflow bottle is not cracked, it has rubber flaps over the suspension, both horns are hooked up etc.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Under the trunk lid and the jamb are painted slick. Inside is clean metal with spatter paint. It does have a spare tire and jack assembly.
UNDERSIDE: This has the Rally Ride package which includes rear boxed control arms, front and rear sway bars and stiffer springs. The steering and suspension looks like it's been gone through. This has optional disc brakes in front. The brake lines have been replaced and e-brake is hooked up. It has the correct dual exhaust system. The fuel system looks like it's been replaced including the tank. Looking up at the motor it is clean. It has the stock fuel pump, starter and flywheel cover. Original VIN number matching Turbo 400 automatic. The tag riveted to the side has the code BB which is unique to this Stage-1 only. The drive shaft was restored and even has correct assembly line markings. It has its original rear end with 3.64 posi gears only available in non a/c cars. The floors are clean rust-free metal with the light undercoat. The chassis has been prepped and painted semi-gloss black.
SERVICE: We inspected the car and replaced the fuel pump, replaced the water pump, thermostat, and housing, rebuilt the carburetor, repaired the reverse lights, repaired the fuel gauge, cleaned the headlight connectors, adjusted the ignition lock rod, replaced a power steering hose.
Going fast with class! The 1970 Stage-1 is one of the big dogs. AKA Hemi killer, Motor Trend reported a 13.38 1/4 mile time back in 1970. This one here is investment grade considering low miles, #s matching and the abundance of documentation. We have an appraisal from the President of the Buick GS Club of America, in 1992 it was $19,500. I wish I knew what I sold it for in 2005, probably in the 60s. The question is how high do you think it will be 10 years from now? It's proven to be a great investment so far!
