Bernard Whitman, Democratic strategist and pollster, believes the real loser in yesterday's election is the American people, not because the Democrats lost, but because the political center is now gone. America is a centrist country -- that's where most of the voters are. Most of the centrist Blue Dog Democrats were wiped out and with the Republican Party hijacked by the Tea Party, the few Republican moderates are gone as well. With the Republicans and President Obama unable to govern from the center, the burden rests on independent candidates and movements to build on their success in 2010 and rise up to reclaim the political center in this country in 2012.
